The notion that you could overdose from smoking dope like that is so crazy to me.
Back over a decade ago before I quit, it was basically common knowledge that you couldn't realistically overdose and die from smoking H on foil because you'd pass out and just fall asleep before you could physically smoke enough to OD.
Everyone back in my group knew that you only started running the risk of a serious OD when you started shooting it. The only people I knew from back in the day who OD'd and actually died were people who were really deep into the stages of addiction and shooting up large doses basically daily.
To OD and DIE? From SMOKING it? That's shocking, even to me as someone who can think of at least 3 friends who died from opiate ODs.
That's something that only happens with fentanyl because it's 50x the potency of H and 100x the potency of morphine.
I think it has to do with potency and you never know the quality and whether it's pure or mix with something else. You know about the stuff from China. It might be mix with something else.
The unknown potency is a huge factor too. You never know what you get when you buy black market. But also if it was really heavily cut with something then you might also have trouble smoking enough to actually OD.
The fact is it used to be the fact that people were so squeamish about needles and really didn't want to take that next step which is what kept a lot of people's habits from getting totally out of hand.
You started smoking it, where there was minimal risk of OD, then once you got hooked real bad and realized you were getting the shakes when you stopped using it you either got help and quit, or you started shooting and it got real bad because you started needing to stretch stuff as long as it would go to save money.
You didn't have these situations where people would be smoking off of some foil and accidentally OD.
The part that drives me the craziest about this is that no opiate user would ever willingly buy fent that's been spiked with that xylazine shit they're putting in it now. This is a problem that only exists because of black markets and prohibition.
If you regulated it, you could at least regulate it sensibly with restrictions on how the ultra-extreme weapons-grade potency opiates could be sold so a lot of these accidental overdoses don't happen and people have an opportunity to get help.

I am glad you left that, God is protecting you.

That's true.
