It really looks like pilled filler and weird lighting because it's covering the lamp. Why not cut into one and find out?

Always used to be my brand as well, but I suddenly became allergic to adhesive in my late 20s and can't use them anymore. Also, the ones with the blue gel core or made of a rubbery material...yeah, allergic to those as well.

I'm pretty sure they have latex in them, and I suddenly became allergic to latex. This was about 15ish years ago now.
