Yes, beef is high right now. It’s because we have fewer ranchers (average age is 58– I’m part of this group and have had cattle my entire life) lots of really bad luck weather for years on end, drought, freezes, fires, that have affected productivity. Many ranchers HAD to sell off a large part of their reproductive females due to years of drought. Can’t feed them if you have no hay— and round bales were costing over $150 per bale in some areas. Prices are expected to remain high for the next FOUR YEARS. Yeah, you read that right. So, yes in the meantime, implement Massie’s idea - it’s a nice strong step in the right direction, but it’s going to take FOUR YEARS for the USA herd numbers to catch up. Trump isn’t wrong on this. Right now, 500-600 pound calves are selling the highest they have ever sold at 2.50 to 3.80 per pound that is for both steers and heifers (link to a livestock auction in my area https://www.navasotalivestock.com/_files/ugd/73e84b_58428d1635ee4a2b95f573677521af48.pdf )
Historically, heifers never sell as high as the steers; this is happening because 1) ranchers are trying to restock their herd 2) ranchers are still trying to catch up from when feed expenses were still high 3) some of us managed to retain more of our herd than others and we’re keeping exceptional cattle and selling the average cows.
TLDR: Trump is right about the beef. Someone who farms soy needs to weigh in on that area.

Well said.
Thanks for posting.
"Someone who farms soy needs to weigh in on that area."
God bless you for feeding me.
:) It’s always “work”, but I love cows.
