whats the pitch on the casket they will use to screw him into the ground??
Will the American flag be wrinkled?
That was my first question when I saw the title.π
Editing, just saw them walking the casket down the aisle, no American Flag, looks like a Cross flag or something, can't quite make it out.
Edit 2, there was an American flag as the casket was brought out of the hearse but switched out before coming down the aisle, strange, wonder why.
Saw that. UNPRECEDENTED!
GROK:
Placing any other flag (foreign, state, organizational, or otherwise) on top of the American flag draped over a casket during an official U.S. vice presidential (or presidential) funeral would be highly improper and essentially unprecedented.
Here's why, based on established protocol and the U.S. Flag Code (4 U.S.C. Β§ 7β8):
The American flag is the sole flag used to drape the casket in state or official funerals for presidents, vice presidents, and other high federal officials. It is positioned with the union (stars) over the left shoulder, and nothing is ever placed on top of it β not flowers, medals, photos, or another flag. This is explicit in military and funeral honor guard protocols: the draped U.S. flag is the highest honor and must remain uncovered.
The broader U.S. Flag Code states that no other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the U.S. flag. Placing anything over it (including another flag) is considered a grave breach of etiquette, symbolizing subordination of the national flag. In military/veteran funerals (which VP funerals follow closely), the same rule applies: the casket flag is sacred, and even "Thin Blue/Red Line" variants or departmental flags are not placed over the U.S. flag if it is used.
Historical precedent:
In all modern presidential and vice presidential funerals (e.g., Reagan, Ford, Bush 41, Carter in 2025), the casket was draped only in the American flag during official portions β no overlays.
I had to argue with Grok claiming there is no pall on the casket
Finally uploaded a picture of the pall and Grok finally agreed
"What we are seeing on Dick Cheneyβs casket inside Washington National Cathedral right now is a white funeral pall (the traditional Christian/Episcopal cloth with a red-and-gold embroidered cross) placed directly on top of the American flag.
This is highly unusual for a former vice president receiving full military honors."
I didn't realize the flag was UNDER that pall, wth?π²π€π‘
Yes! Many important Questions...
