I live in NC. As a teen girl I use to be able to drive and go almost anywhere in the state and feel safe except for a few streets in the major cities. And honestly, I never found a place so bad that it wasn't okay during the day.
After BLM stuff I got more careful avoiding bad parts of cities.
After Covid? There are a lot of places I refuse to go, and many I won't go even with my husband and his CCP.
My home is being hollowed out. And I never see white children when we go out. I don't mind seeing all sorts of people, but the extreme lack of an entire group's children being around is creepy.
It is. We have a lot of the benefits that make living here really nice. We have great weather, mountain, hills, and beach. Industries are kinda returning... Tech and medical is nice. The food culture beats most states I've visited...
But that seems to also make a target for being abused like this. And it also makes us a target for liberals fleeing here from other states to flee to for a cheaper living without losing the amenities they are use to.
The stuff going on scares me because of how much I like it here... Every single problem in this state is unnecessary nonsense with clear intent to harm the people who have lived here for more than 20 years.
I lived up there for 4 months on a job for an airlines...Loved the place...Lived in Winston-Salem...GREAT City...BUT I do agree with you about the changes...same thing is happening here in Florida!!!!

I traveled there b4 and really like it. Yes, sound like the Demonrats are turning it into CA
