Yes, the 1980 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team did win the gold medal after their famous "Miracle on Ice" victory against the Soviet Union, followed by a win against Finland, but they are only now receiving the Congressional Gold Medal in December 2025, a distinction honoring their historic achievement decades later. They received their actual Olympic gold medals back in 1980, but Congress recently authorized the special Congressional Gold Medals to commemorate the event.
