If a breakdown I saw about true history is right, the only reason why Canada didn't previously become a part of the United States was machinations of the British Empire doing things in the background.
With how things are moving, I can't help but think at least part of Canada joining the United States is part of the plan so the valuable landmass that is Alaska isn't cut off from the rest of the continental United States. Especially if relations improve and trade starts with Russia via a bridge or tunnel system.
That would potentially be an enormous amount of trade revenue that could help prop up the corrupt Canadian government via tariff or dues on trade moving through Canadian territory.
