This goes way back. Democrats didnt start this, under bush this became the method to expose medics to real pain and suffering of their patients with real blood and pressure. Not saying it was the best thing to do but thats why. Also it was pigs and goats not dogs.

The k9 handlers went through similar traini g with dogs, but the dogs were NOTshot. K9s have their liver on top of their stomachs and in certain conditions a dogs liver can fill with blood and flip causing lethal bloating. Saw a couple of dogs die like that. So We carried a special tube to intubate the stomach and release tje gasses until we could get the dogs to a field vet. Tje training saved a lot of dogs but at the time we only had dogs to learn on. Since then some great atificial dog models ahve been invented to learn on and a surgery to anchor the stomach so it couldnt flip ever was developed tjat had 100 percent success. Whether you agree or not these methods saved many lives on the battle field. Im glad theyve gotten better ways to do it as training on live dogs was distressing, but no where near as distressing as tje real thing was when you saw it in real life.
