Quite honestly, I've never been a fan of the government getting involved in marriage matters, which are mostly religious.
That being said, obviously I'm not a fan of fraud. Government needs to come up with a better way of assessing this stuff, if they're so intent on getting involved in people's romantic dealings.
This isn't something exclusive to Muslims, Jewish, and Mormons. Plenty of other people do this as well. There's a reason why the term "common law marriage" exists.
