I tried iodine a couple years ago and wound up with hyperthyroidism, I literally fried my thyroid gland. I was taking just 2 drops of Lugol's iodine per day. I'm not condemning it, I'm just warning you to be careful, it literally could kill you.

Lugol's is potassium iodide.
WITH Iodine.
I quit taking it and my thyroid went back to normal after about a year. My doctor caught it after my yearly check up showed it in my blood test. I got an ultrasound of my thyroid and I was borderline for being put on thyroid medicine. I told my doctor about taking iodine and he agreed that if I stopped my thyroid should go back to normal, which it did.
