A big part of it is Micron moving away from consumer ram in favor of the business AI market. Many of the companies that sell ram use rebranded Micron sticks. There were others in the past, but in the last decade or two its mainly been Micron and Samsung making all the consumer ram.
Not only that, but the companies who sell pre-builts like HP/Dell/boutiques all get first dibs on produced ram. So its a real crap shoot right now if you wanna build or upgrade a computer.
I know, right! Whats with the ram prices?....I have 256GB of ram so i'll be fine for a while...
