Technically Mar-a-Lago remains a public venue people can rent if you have the money. Though it’s not completely clear from what I’ve been able to find whether the people in the costumes were attendees or performers. As articles seem to refer to them both ways.
Not enough weird fetish gear, or cartoon heads to be mainstream furries though. There was also far too many biological Women present to be a mainstream Furry gathering. The Dog mask thing isn’t what threw me though. Maybe I just worked retail too long for shit like that phase me. I don’t know. It’s the 18th century outfits that threw me off.
If I had to guess given what sparse details we have. It was some odd performance act someone at the Humane Society thought was a good idea. And the people dressed up are just performers there for entertainment as opposed to being actual furries.
