Ukraine was one of the founding republics of the USSR in 1922, officially called the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. It remained a Soviet republic for ~70 years until 1991, when it declared independence following the collapse of the USSR.
I don't know much about world history like that. It is interesting.
I wonder what caused the collapse of the USSR.
