Twin Cities Metro: Approx. 3,169,159 residents (approx. 55.2% of state). Greater Minnesota: Approx. 44.8% of the state population. Rochester (City): 123,624 residents (2025 estimate), with the metro area at around 230,000. Total State Population: ~5.7 million. The Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area is, therefore, significantly more populous than the rest of the state combined, while Rochester acts as a major, but much smaller, regional city in the southeastern part of the state.
