I used to be a drug addict and I can say that there isn't an answer to that question. EVERYONE who takes drugs is different and while they're still addicted not a single one of them can tell you why. I've been clean and sober for 28 years and I still don't know why it happened to me.
I was addicted to getting high, not just one drug. I drank an average of a 12 pack of Bud every day for 30 years. I also did pills, cocaine, crack and heroin. I was what you call a "functioning" addict, I had a job and worked every day but I was also high every day. I hit bottom on Jan. 24, 1998, my friends took me to a detox center and after that I spent 28 days in a rehab center. On Jan, 24, 1998 I quit smoking, alcohol and drugs on the same day and I haven't touched any of them since.
Find out why people want to do drugs first?

People want to feel good, plain and simple. May I ask what you were addicted to specifically? DM or reply, up to you if you're willing to share.
