My H.S. didn't use Lifetouch. There was a company we used that did both the student yearbook photos and the yearbook publishing. We took the pictures of school events and the various student groups and sent them in to the company. That company sent the photo packages and yearbooks to the school where we passed them out to whoever pre-ordered or who decided to buy one once they came in. I can't remember the name of the company, but I know it wasnt Lifetouch. The company's name started with a H, might've been Harcourt Press Publishing, but I'm drawing a blank, honestly. That was 30+ yrs ago. I do remember that the only student info the company we used was the student's name. No other identifying info was allowed. The student also had the right to either not take a picture, or to not have their photo removed from the yearbook. We kept it as private as possible. The company also had a disclaimer at the bottom of the ordering form stating that they wouldn't use any gathered info from the parent's checks for sales, marketing, etc. The yearbooks were sent to the school and passed out from there because the company wasn't given student addresses. Any correspondence was done through the yearbook club. Most of the students paid in cash, so there wasn't a need for the company to gather any info other than a stident's name for the cover's embossing.
Why any schools would give out, or allow a student's p.i.d. info to be given to a private company is beyond me. That should've been the only red flag needed to kill that school's contract with Lifetouch. There is absolutely no reason why a private company should have a Minor's info, outside of maybe a healthcare or insurance company, or a Minor's employer.
You all might have dodged the bullet I suppose, I grew up in the sf bay area and I remember it being how he said it was , mind you I can't say this is 100% but it's something to remember and keep on the back burner at least. If true totally fucked!

Looking up if my school district uses them. Gemini answer :
"K-11 Portraits: Lifetouch typically handles the underclassmen "Picture Day" for the elementary, middle, and high schools."
