We have discussed alternative medications in the past. My wife who is 58 has been trying to not be placed on statin drugs for high cholestorol. Her physician is now scaring her as her levels are over double what he wants them to be. Some of what I have read personally state that cholestorol is needed to ward off alzeheimers. One of her great aunts had alzeheimers and we suspected her sister my wifes grandmother as being undiagnosed. My wife is resonably inclined to stay away for statin drugs but we are also equally scared of her numbers.

I am a retired Registered Nurse of 35+ years in the profession. I have familial high cholesterol, off the "charts". My doctor tried everything to get me on statins, scare tactics galore. I do not take statins nor will I ever take statins. I take the Linus Pauling Vit C/L-lysine cardiac protocol twice annually at higher dose for 4-6 weeks to clean out my arteries and continue it at a lower dose year round. Also take Citrus Bergamot, Olive Leaf extract and Plant Sterols.
I keep my triglycerides and LDL lowered within parameters and get my HDL elevated within parameters but most importantly I watch my lipoprotein A (you have to ask to have included in your bloodwork) to keep it down as far as possible. Cholesterol is not the problem. It is inflammation that causes the problem.
My Dad lived to be 96, I am the youngest in a family of 6, all have familial high cholesterol. My oldest sister is 79. If you have metabolic syndrome, heal your biodome, eat healthy, limit sugar, mild exercise daily if possible, supplement as needed, and avoid big pharma whenever you can. Oh and my Doctor... he now says I'm healthier than him, guess what he is on statins for familial high cholesterol. Please do your research you will ultimately know more than your Doctor.
This is what I was just typing as you posted.
