We have the keys
“And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” Now what are the keys of the kingdom of heaven? Who’d He give them to? He gave them to those that make this confession; that know Him as Savior. In other words, if you are a child of God, you have the keys as much as any person has the keys. And it will be up to you to unlock the door for someone. This is something very serious. And that means that you and I today have a responsibility. We have a gospel and it’s the only gospel that can save men. Who’s sufficient, friends, for these things? You and I have a responsibility that’s awesome, indeed.

Communion with Christ is a certain cure for every ill. Whether it be the wormwood of woe, or the cloying surfeit of earthly delight, close fellowship with the Lord Jesus will take bitterness from the one, and satiety from the other. Live near to Jesus, Christian, and it is matter of secondary importance whether thou livest on the mountain of honour or in the valley of humiliation. Living near to Jesus, thou art covered with the wings of God, and underneath thee are the everlasting arms. We bless God, then, for our afflictions; we thank Him for our changes; we extol His name for losses of property; for we feel that had He not chastened us thus, we might have become too secure. Continued worldly prosperity is a fiery trial.
