If sin is shared, then we are all cast upon gehenna. We must make a personal choice to follow Him and be saved. That means sin is not spread like a contagion, but is preserved each on our own souls.
This is why the Lord reserves vengeance and spiritual judgement for Himself.
We burn people to death under guise of our righteousness. We Hatfield and McCoy. He wants us to have a (lot of) chance to find Him.
Because imagine it the other way. A parent permanently stains their teen because he stole, even if the teen didn't know. Now the Lord is going to reject that teen and cast him out? You bought a shirt from China, and now you are cast out?
And that's just a brief consideration of mundane sins before we get to the world's "worse level" of sins.

Luke 12 even deals with ignorance directly - not knowing gets you lesser punishment.
