That is not hypocritical. We directly fund their militaries for support. Zelenskyy and Ukraine do not. We arent asking NATO for troops, we are asking for Naval support and pressure in the region. Its a small ask but a very weak response by our so called "allies" who will reap huge rewards in the region thanks to the USA taking out the trash over there.
Nothing is free, the US used military to gain influence, all while justifying subsidizing with tax money the military since they cannot "lower the production" because there are less wars. The US always needs wars to keep its economy and power.
Giving troops to NATO was always in the interest of the US, it was made it look as goodwill.
Also you discuss entering a war with your allies BEFORE getting into one. Europe is not a vassal state of the US, you can't just order people around without them questioning such decision.
Trump also didn't ask NATO before starting the war, it's hypocritical to think they had to join after the stone was tossed.
