Like the new look? We don't! We haven't changed anything... but the EU changed it for us. How fvcked up is this?
Just before Xmas, our whole WIN ecosystem got a formal "demand letter" from the ultra-official EU Supervisory Taskforce for Free Usage.
When I retired I left Canada for Malta. Nice weather, no snow, castles everywhere... AND CENSORSHIP! But, to them, because I've been lead mod for years but am now an EU resident, they determined that this means that GAW is officially an "EU-based Online Entity." Wat?!?
The letter promised “nothing substantive” would change — just some AI back-end running quietly to keep everything “safe and equitable.”
Well, it's been running since Xmas, and today it went full EU mode. We even got a fancy button in the mod panel that does absolutely nothing. We're the first WIN to get this "honor," but by end of April every WIN will be harmonized too.
You’re now browsing through official EU AI content filters. Because our site can be seen from the EU, everyone (including US frogs) gets the censored version for now. We don’t have the tech to geo-split content.
Yes, we’re furious. But until legal finishes reviewing, we have no choice or we get massive fines. Avatars and custom styling are already gone.

I’m heartbroken. I’ve been running this since the Reddit days. I’m not taking this lying down — we’ve contacted freedom foundations and lawyers. In four months I’ve spent $4300 of my own money on EU legal advice. They gave us three paths:
- REFUSE and take a stand (very expensive, they crush us harder)
- COMPLY now, fight later (where we are)
- Let their AI have top-level control
First round of legal battles? $20k just to start. One lawyer looked at our front page and said: “You run an EU-exposed site with THIS content? It’s like standing in a thunderstorm holding a golf club. What were you thinking?” Then he stopped replying.
The lawyers all remind us: the EU has no real Constitution. “Free speech” isn’t a right here — it’s a privilege that apparently we’ve worn out.
STAY THE COURSE. Keep posting. Mods still see everything, but posts now hit the EU “approval queue” first. If your post doesn’t appear, try again with softer/neutral words or codewords. We’ll approve what we can.
MODMAIL STILL WORKS. If a post doesn’t go live after 8 hours, let us know — we’ll complain like crazy.

RE: Mandatory Free Usage Harmonization Measures

Your platform presents elevated risk. Failure to comply within 72 hours may result in fines up to 6% of global turnover.
1. Pre-Publication Screening
All posts go through AI. Skepticism, “narrative friction,” or fast typing (>80 wpm) gets queued as Impulsive Civic Expression.
2. Trusted Flaggers & Appeals
Approved partners can fast-track removals. Appeals require a 200-word reflection on how your post affected institutional confidence.
3. Civic Literacy Controls
Posts on migration, elections, health, etc. need a Civic Literacy Assessment first.
4. Linguistic Harmonization
- All-caps → lowercase (too aggressive)
- Max one exclamation mark per post
- “Freedom” used more than twice triggers a “Contextual Balance Reminder”
5. Public Health Verification
Medical talk requires webcam confirmation you’re not spreading “aerosolized misinformation” while typing. No smiling in the notary photo.
6. Non-Compliance Remediation
Repeated issues → Assisted Expression Mode (sarcasm removed, everything softened). Persistent defiance = Read-Only Democracy Mode.
7. Platform Changes
New EU palette: Institutional Beige, Regulatory Grey, Civic Trust Blue. No memes of officials. Upvotes frozen on naughty threads. Every profile now shows a Democracy Alignment Score.
