"farther into Deep Space than any human has EVER gone." Sounds more like it has not been done before. What is this really saying?
He's making reference to how the crew of Orion will be on a trajectory that will take them further from the earth (252,000 miles) than the Apollo 13 crew that is the holder of the current record of (248,655 miles).
