Love this. I've always thought high schoolers should be taught how to manage finances. Might even see a decline of student loan usage once they know what a scam an unsecured loan is. I've also thought included in that should be running a paper business. Then they would know the risk of running a business. Might turn out better employees with some what of a work ethic.
I agree. We paid our kids allowance for doing chores at a young age and made them take money for tithe, taxes and savings before spending anything. That continued when they got older and worked for my construction business till they graduated high school. Not one of them have asked us for a dime and a couple of them have more in savings than I do right now
You know financial literacy is as important as breathing air for anyone wanting to live well. It's the failing of both parents and school system if kids do not learn this.
For sure. But the schools don't want to turn out smart individuals who can think and reason for themselves. A few slip through but for the most part not
When our kids were teenagers, we gave them a credit card with a budgeted spend amount so they could buy their own school stuff. But, for anything not pre-approved by us, they had to ask us first. We were trying to train them to understand ‘needs’ vs, ‘wants’ . Very important distinction for budgeting, especially when you are first starting out.
My daughter works in banking (credit review and analysis) and volunteers to teach poor women how to get their households back to fiscal soundness -- budgeting and resource prioritization. She makes an important difference in the lives of those families just thru sound financial practices we learned early in life.
How can we save for anything when housing prices tripled since 2020? The avg price for a new car not a luxury one is $40k. Yet all I see by me is a certain demographic (13/50 IYKYK) all driving high end BMW's & Mercedes and all the bling to go along with it.
Banksters' worst nightmare. People becoming financially literate,
For sure.

This is such a basic thing everyone needs to learn.

That's true. I am so glad you taught your kids well. What a wonderful dad.
