The scuttlebutt is that the 'rescue mission' was almost entirely a hoax operation, and a cover for an attempt by special forces to seize fissionable material from near the Isfahan nuclear site. Which was defeated by local Iranian militias.

Which is a whole different spin on the 'central casting' meme.
