The Pope did make a statement in a way. He rolled out the prayer rugs for Muslims in St. Peters so we know where he stands. (AND there is nothing "Holy" about a man that calls himself the "Vicar of Christ"! No man is in the place of Jesus. We all have a direct access to Jesus and the Father.
