You could, if for some bizarre reason you wanted to, rent a U-haul for peanuts going TO California. There's so little demand bringing them back to the state naturally, that the company practically gives them away for the trip.
Now, getting back out of California, like that old song goes, "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

My only question is, what took them so long? We moved out in 2018 which was years too late in my opinion.
