I'm out of the loop on what "pope Leo" has said (I do not consider him to be a Catholic pope)
Catholics are for relative freedom of immigration, I think to safeguard the rights of Catholics to flee persecution for example.
However the question of weaponized immigration policies hasn't been addressed by a pre-Vatican 2 pope (with modern "popes" probably saying unreliable leftwing-leaning things).
Even "pope Leo" has acknowledged a right for countries to have some border enforcement, I believe.
Naturally there would be plenty of other states to criticize with probably worse immigration policies than the USA (a focus on critiquing the U.S., is indeed some kind of left-wing politicking)
