Cox v. Louisiana (1965): Clarified that while the government can regulate the location of protests (like restricting picketing directly outside a courthouse to prevent intimidation), they cannot do so in an arbitrary or unconstitutional manner.
Edwards v. South Carolina (1963): Established that state officials cannot use "breach of the peace" laws to convict peaceful protesters simply because their views are unpopular or cause public inconvenience.
