Yuppers. I knew they were captured when I was given a 4,300 dollar estimate to replace a water heater. These people are literally making it impossible for people to own a house.
They sure are. I made a spectacle of his outrageous price before he left.
A week later they called offering a 1500 dollar discount. I told them to piss off. He tried rationalizing the high cost with errors that could possibly happen. I said that's stuff that should be covered by your insurance, not included in my fee. I'm not getting a refund if you don't flood my basement.
These people running these business are just morons selling out to the corps. I will hire someone independently to do the work. My dad installed this water heater by himself for free and now 2 guys wanna gut my wallet of 4 grand. I'm severely offended.
Large corporations and private equity firms are purchasing home inspection companies and software platforms like Spectora and HomeGauge to own detailed reports covering roof age condition electrical plumbing foundation problems HVAC status and environmental hazards. This data was meant to stay confidential between buyers and inspectors.
The terms of service loophole lets firms sell the information to insurance companies and lenders who use it for risk assessment and underwriting then charge thousands more per year in premiums. The consolidation targets the data not the inspection business itself.
More businesses that steal from Americans rather than create needed products or services. The American Economy can't keep eating itself. There needs to be new business growth. Under a new Financial System based of the stolen wealth of the Fed. New jobs and much needed training will flourish. American families will be paid bonuses for keeping nuclear families together and having children.
During COVID when many other types of businesses were shuttered, private equity started buying up companies that weren't affected like HVAC, plumbing, roofing, insurance, home inspections, and more.
For those companies that have been a bought out the pricing has gone up, the quality and competence of the employees has gone down, and everything is about upselling and getting you on membership / service plans.
Here in Phoenix for example virtually every large air conditioning company was bought out by the hedge funds in private equity. Family owned businesses that used to be great and a had quality technicians like Parker and sons air conditioning turned into absolute dog shit that would send out incompetent texts to overcharge you for services and in many cases not be able to actually fix your issues.
Avoid these companies like the plague. Find independent mom and pop shops that don't have 1-800 numbers, call centers, and whose websites look like they're 10+ years old.
My next door neighbor called me last week to see who put the roof on my house during a remodel. He said he got a notice from his homeowner's insurance they are cancelling his policy unless he replaces his roof. He is 83 and on fixed income and has not had any roof problems.
This maybe happening more than we realized. Just changed home insurance carriers this year due to premiums more than tripling since 2021.
New company had inspector come out and using a drone it was noted my roof could not be insured due to streaking and granular loss! I basically would have one year to replace or no insurance next year. Fortunately, I had the paperwork when roof was replaced which was just a few days under 10 yrs ago. That did change the current coverage to depreciated value if it needs to be repaired or replaced. Contacted the roofing company who installed and owner gave me a name he uses w/o this policy but with replacement cost. Agree, insurance industry needs a major overhaul!!!

Your plumber is now owned by a private equity firm who fully intends to grab a chunk of your real estate "value"

That sounds really high, even for those of us here in California central valley.
