Look at the DDR, East Germany! The most prosperous of all the Soviets conquests! They survived for decades on the physical plant they inherited from the past German industry! Like Zeiss, so many other premier firms. The infrastructure was RUINED under Communist rule! They fell because they had USED UP the capital stock without maintaining it! Roads going to ruin, etc. There was nothing left for them to consume -- of other peoples money! and capital stock they conviscated.
