This is so true. What wonderful memories some of us have! The Bible played such an important part of our lives, and still does. When I was growing up (born 1947) we didn't have much. But we had a lot of love and looked out for one another. Somehow when things looked bleak and how would we make ends meet, that's when we knew God was in control, and we never suffered because we didn't have as much as some others. We learned to depend on God, did our part and God ALWAYS blessed. But now we have this wonderful technology that has taken the place of nurturing and teaching from God's Word. Some can't wait to put papaw and mamaw in a nursing home. The older generation has so much knowledge and wisdom that they can still impart if you are willing to listen. Sometimes the old ways are best. Let's get back to teaching the Bible to our little ones so they can have hope in a hopeless situation.
Thru the Bible - Sunday Sermon Dr. J. Vernon McGee
To Tell the Truth
In a world full of confident voices, how do you know what’s real? Dr. J. Vernon McGee borrows the setup of a game show to ask a timeless question: How do you recognize the true person of God? As he walks us through Esau and Jacob in Genesis, Dr. McGee shows the difference between religious appearance and a life changed by the Spirit—and invites each of us to stop striving in our own strength and yield to Christ
My mother read to me from the Bible when I was six years old. My great-grandmother gave me a New Testament just before she died as an early birthday present. I still have it. When I joined the church in 1966, my father gave me a Bible.
