Detention before deportation extends from six months to 30 months and becomes unlimited for security threats. Migrants including families with children can be sent to return hubs in third countries while awaiting removal. Courts will decide case-by-case whether deportation stays apply during appeals. Entry bans double from five to ten years with lifetime bans possible for security risks. Only about 20 percent of prior deportation orders have been carried out. MEPs chanted send them back on the floor when the result was announced. The vote follows right-wing electoral gains across Europe and mirrors enforcement policies shown popular by President Trump.
