Holy Father, I am not quite a social person. I put all of my energy being nice with my coworker, then to tend to my daily music jam and home chores. Today, a colleague leaves. I really enjoyed working the last 10 months with this person with whom we had quite a warm connection. How to explain that given my inexistant social life, we may never meet again physically. Maybe I shall omit to mention that, not to make the separation upsetting for both of us. I praise You for making these encounters possible and also for remining me of how ephemerous they may be, which quite increase theirr human values.

AGENDA

## Religious Observances

In the Roman Catholic Church, June 30 observes the optional memorial of the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome, commemorating the Christians executed under Emperor Nero in the aftermath of the Great Fire of Rome on July 19, AD 64. Historical accounts, including those by Roman historian Tacitus, describe how Nero scapegoated Christians for the blaze, leading to systematic tortures such as being sewn into animal skins and mauled by dogs, crucified, or burned alive as human torches in Nero's gardens; these events marked one of the earliest large-scale persecutions of Christians, resulting in numerous unnamed victims alongside figures like Saints Peter and Paul. The feast, instituted in the 1969 revision of the General Roman Calendar, emphasizes their collective martyrdom as a foundational witness to Christian fidelity amid imperial hostility, distinct from the solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29.

Several individual saints are also venerated on this date in Catholic tradition, including Saint Paul of the Cross (1694–1775), founder of the Passionists, whose order focuses on contemplation of Christ's Passion; he experienced visions and promoted rigorous asceticism, with his canonization in 1867 affirming his role in 18th-century Italian spirituality. Other commemorations include Saint Basilides, a Roman soldier martyred around AD 303 for refusing to renounce Christianity during Diocletian's persecutions, and Saint Bertrand of Le Mans (died circa AD 725), a bishop known for charitable works and miracles attributed in hagiographies. These observances draw from martyrologies compiled from early church records, though details of many minor saints rely on tradition rather than exhaustive contemporary evidence.

In Eastern Orthodox Christianity, June 30 (on the Julian calendar, corresponding variably in the Gregorian) honors saints such as Apostle Paul in some commemorative liturgies extending from the June 29 feast of Peter and Paul, emphasizing Paul's conversion and missionary labors as detailed in Acts and his epistles; Orthodox synaxaria also list martyrs like Synclus and Apollo of Egypt.
