Freedom of Religion in its modern interpretation is a mistake. The founders made it for different Christian denominations they never intended for hordes of Muslims and Hindu’s to come here. Religious tolerance might as well be atheism.
Some of the most famous founders didn't even follow the bible. They were Deists. They were also Freemasons. Freemasonry allows all the Abrahamic religions.
Yes many were cultural Christians they may not believed or have been devout but they understood Christianity was a major part of the culture. And when you look at immigration policy of European Christian men of good character it is clear they never meant for this country to be overrun by non Christians.

Because you had to pretend to be Christian back then or face consequences it means everyone still has to be Christian.
