The heat index is supposed to be up to 101 here in northeastern NC, so those numbers in FL seem normal for July. It's only supposed to be in the mid-80s here on Monday, so that's when I'll mow the grass, even though it needs it today. Living in the country means I could let it get rank, and no one would care or bother me.
It's certainly not "unusually cool" here in northeastern NC. We've had way more 90+ days than in most years. But I can remember a stretch of days back in the 1960s where we had 100+ temps. All we could do then was sit in the living room and sweat.

Yup. It's at best an ordinary summer, if not positively unusually cool
