But what did the democrats gain with any of it? Did it advance their cause or seriously damage Trump?

I don't care about destroying Kevin Clinesmith's life or financially ruining Lisa Page.

That is a matter of perspective. Because the media is for the most part an arm of the Democrat party, the Democrats gained greatly in the PR war. I encounter people all the time who sincerely believe that Mueller found collusion between Trump and Russia. It's fine for those of us who get our news from conservative sources but most don't. All most people know is that quite a few Trump associates were indicted and I doubt that 1 in 10 has even heard of Clinesmith.
