It is a weird book. I like scifi, and have read a ton of it over the years, but this is just plain odd. It starts with a sword wielding pizza delivery guy(pizza is now a mafia controlled business), then devolves into a hyper preachy, trying to be smarter than it is, taking itself waaay too serious kind of story. I don't mind preachy, I liked Leto's speeches in "God Emperor", this book however, yikes, it is on a totally different level and not in a good way. The neural programming/virus part IS the book, the pizza part is a flimsy wrapper. It came across to me as very anti-Christian. The story never sat right with me honestly, it actually bothered me quite a bit. I always tell someone read it for yourself, come to your own opinion, but I don't know if I would suggest wasting 2-3 days reading it.
After reading that twit thread, it makes a lot more sense when coupled with the world population minimizer point of view. Again, these bastards are right in your face, out in the open with what they want to do.
As long as we can get hypervelocity flechette gattling guns, that seems like a solid deal. Even the most nutty TDS-infected hordes will listen to Reason.
By the way, if you enjoyed Snow Crash, a lot of Stephenson's other books would appeal - recommend Diamond Age. Its set in the same world as SC but with the timeline rolled forward a bit.
