What I've seen happen on Reddit is someone creates a popular subreddit, like the name of a celebrity, a state, or a hobby and appoints a mod. The subreddit grows and the lower mods work to create a community, while the top mod does nothing. Then when it grows large, the top mod can swoop back in and change the direction of the subreddit, sometimes quite drastically and to the detriment of the community.

If it was u/catsfive, then he pretty much already is the top mod (being #2), so it practically wouldn't be any different than it is now.

If it's not him though, then whoever has the account u/dropgun could swoop in and change the community. For example, he could say that the Great Awakening is actually about cryptocurrency, essential oils or a new brand of coffee, and remove any mods/users who don't agree to shill for his new platform.
