With my limited understanding of movie sets, there are both prop guns and real guns. They have fake dummy guns (made out of rubber or something) for when they need to just hold it and don’t have to actually shoot. Prop guns (real but non-functional) for when they do close ups or have to manipulate them in some way but not shoot. Modified (so no blank adapter is visible) real functional guns when they shoot. They’re supposed to shoot blanks (crimped casing with less powder and no actual bullet). They have dummy rounds (bullet and casing w/no powder/primer) for when you need to see the rounds. All of this is supposed to be treated as dangerous and highly controlled/cleared/checked by the master armorer for the set. They’re not supposed to shoot without one on set. Other than a freak Brandon Lee type accident (blank cartridge put in behind dummy bullet), where the armorer wasn’t on set , this isn’t supposed to be able to happen.

There is a NG training base in Anniston called FT McClellan. The NG shares resources between states like certain facilities and ranges.
