I wound up on imgur for some reason and ran across this post while I was poking around. Courtesy of user Beergasm.
"A sacrifice to the abyss of Usersub.
Today was my last day of Grand Jury duty. For those that don't know, in GJD, we look at several cases a day, getting testimony from witnesses, victims, and police, about a crime committed. Our job as a group of 7, is to determine if the evidence provided aligns with the charges proposed. 5 out of 7 means we sign the indictment, and it goes forward to a court case.
In the past two weeks, I have heard testimony of a dozen children that were raped, sometimes "willingly" (There is no consent under 18 legally), several spouses being raped and beaten, kids being beaten within an inch of their lives, women and men being sold as property, people hurting each other in ways I wish I couldn't imagine...
I'm in shock. I'm disgusted, and my heart is broken at hearing / seeing some of the things I've had to see these past two weeks. I know that we as humans are already kinda a lost cause, but the levels of depravity, the depths of horror that I've seen in just two weeks...
Some advice from these past couple weeks;
Hug those you love tightly. Tell them you love them. Listen to their issues and be with them. Give your animals an extra treat. Let your kids know that it's NEVER ok to be touched like "that". What he/she did was probably assault before you thought it was. Let your wife, husband, bf, gf, sister, brother, etc, know that they can come to you with anything.
I know the impact these things we witnessed pale in comparison to the impact they have on the victims and their loved ones. I'll never pretend that we're worse off than them. At least my signature will start the process of putting that POS where they belong.
To those that testify against those who hurt them; I envy your strength and conviction. I've seen your tears and anguish as you speak horrible truths against someone you love / loved. I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for you, and the fact that you're able to speak up after what you've been through is amazing.
TL;DR - Grand Jury Duty sucks, and bless those that go through it, be they a witness, victim, or juror."
Things ARE happening. The storm is building exponentially. May we all say a prayer for everyone involved.
UPDATED: "Edit - This post got biiiiig. Ok, couple things;
I'm seeking therapy, promise. No, my state doesn't offer therapy or anything to us after the fact. I got paid $95 for those 2 weeks, while missing out on $2,500+ in wages. All but one case was VERY obviously guilty, often with confession or video evidence. No, the kids were not lying; evidence of physical trauma, pregnancy, and defendants having a history of abusive behaviors make that VERY obvious. I was the "Foreperson", so it was my job to record (digitally) all testimony, swear in everyone giving testimony, and sign indictments after we deliberate and vote; so it's my signature helping send some of these bastards to trial, and that feels good. It's not all negative, as I learned a TON about the legal process, and I learned that a state legal code book is formatted exactly the same as the NEC 70 code book (Electrician code book), so I was able to quickly read up on the legal definition, and verify that the charges were 100% correct, even correcting a DAs mistake in one case.
My faith in humanity has never been super high, but this kinda took a flamethrower to it, then pissed on the charred remains. Hopefully I'll find a therapist soon, hopefully the nightmares will stop, and I sure as hell hope I see some good in people soon."
