As someone who has been on the internet a LONG time and is also new here, the best way to deal with shills is completely ignore them or be nice to them. You have nothing to fear from them, and any kind of negative engagement is exactly what they want. Shills don't care about being downboated or bant, that tells them its working.

What truly terrifies and upsets them is when they make a post and it gets nothing not insults or downboats but stone cold silence or just a chuckle at them. This tells them that you know you're winning. If course its impractical to give them completely free reign but something to keep in mind: The age old wisdom of "don't feed the trolls"
