Hello all! As an author with a book due out this week, I'm really curious how MAGA folks (especially if you have young ones around) connect with good, funny, wholesome books nowadays (and what such books might be out there that I don't know about!).
Let me make clear from the get-go: this is NOT a self-promo. I'm aware of the board rules and I don't want to defy the mods on them. So I'm not going to discuss my book specifically.
It just seems to me (and I've been researching this quite deeply) that the traditional publishing industry has gone as woke as most fields, and the tradpubs wouldn't touch anything like MAGA-friendly stories for young people (or adults, for that matter).
We hear about so much controversy regarding LGBTQ+ books and other woke crud being inserted into school and public libraries, but I'm not aware of any uprising over anti-woke stories, and I wonder if that's because there are so few of the latter.
So... I would love to hear from you on these issues:
Do you and your family like to read real books? If so, what are your favorites, and how do you find out about them?
What kinds of books are in demand around your communities?
What kinds of books would you like to see published?
Do you feel, as I do, that there's a hidden market out here among MAGA types for funny, wholesome, intelligent MAGA-style stories... one that few purveyors care to consider?
If you're a reader, what kinds of suggestions would you have for someone who'd like to reach this values-based market?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
Howdy all! Longtime user here and Q-follower since Nov. 2, 2017, though I'm not an autist and don't post much.
I wonder if you'd be willing to weigh in on a couple of things that have been on my mind for awhile, particularly if you're a reader, and/or you have or know kids of your own.
To begin, I'm a writer working on my first novel, a cheerful and timely tale about what happens when a group of middle-school-age young patriots discover that someone is trying to buy up all rights to the Fourth of July. My hope is for it to be a story that all Americans from age 10 or so and up can appreciate and maybe be a bit inspired by. It will definitely be very MAGA-friendly!
Watching PDJT's Bronx rally last night inspired me so much because it showed up the positive, can-do American spirit so many of us decent folks, even in the most unexpected places, carry within us, even through some pretty dark times the past few years. That's a big part of what this story I'm writing is for.
So my questions to you frens are:
Do you think that a story like this would appeal to the young adults you know? If so, what do you think they would like to see included in the story?
Do you know of any similarly themed young-adult stories out there nowadays, appealing to MAGA types? If so, could you give some details?
And finally, do you think that young-adult stories like this could be valuable in connecting with the younger generations to help build a better future for America and for the world?
Thanks very much for any thoughts you'd care to share! Cheers.
EDIT TO ADD: Wow, thank you so much to all who've replied so quickly and with such great tips and thoughts! Your input is a real motivator for me to keep at it and get the story done! Please keep the responses coming anytime. :~)
