Makary is an American surgeon, professor, and author. He practices surgical oncology and gastrointestinal laparoscopic surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, [...] and teaches public health policy as Professor of Surgery and Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. [...] Makary was named one of the most influential people in healthcare by Health magazine.[2] In 2018, Makary was elected to the National Academy of Medicine.

You probably recall that Johns Hopkins, along with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Economic Forum, ran "Event 201" in October, 2019. Shortly after that, Bill Gates told a reporter that vaccines would be a good investment for 2020.
For anyone that does not know, Event 201 was a "high-level pandemic exercise," run by Johns Hopkins, involving many people, to simulate what would happen if the world faced an outbreak of a new, virulent virus. The "pretend" virus they chose was a "novel zoonotic coronavirus" that was "modeled largely on SARS." Zoonotic means it originally came from an animal, and the animal chosen for the scenario was a bat.
