Now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned, it is crucial that we continue to mourn the millions of lives lost to abortion, and repent of the national sin of abortion, even as we begin the project of extending legal protection to unborn children in every state we can.
This came up in an unrelated discussion of how technology has improved our lives, about how infant mortality rates have dropped due to technological advancements.
Yet, if I understand the math correctly... hasn't abortion drastically set this progress back?
A related topic is the MSM was arguing that states with abortion bans have higher infant mortality rates... yet, if you factor abortion in, don't states with legal abortion have much higher infant mortality rates?
According to this site, 3.6 million babies were born in the U.S. in 2023: https://apnews.com/article/how-many-babies-are-born-us-25d99f438645908e5ed6ae29d3914b89
According to this site, "researchers estimate there were 1,026,700 abortions in 2023": https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2024/03/19/1238293143/abortion-data-how-many-us-2023
So if the total babies that would have been born was 4.6 million, and a million did not survive 1 year of age (definition of infant mortality rate), that's gonna be between 20% and 25% infant mortality rate. History has a 50% mortality rate so that is a gain... the mainstream mortality rate number today seems to be a few percents (not adding in abortion numbers).
Has anyone made this point before and is this math correct?
https://veteran.com/national-moment-remembrance/
Americans observe the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. every Memorial Day (the last Monday in May). It is intended to help Americans spend a brief, but significant time remembering the sacrifices of those who died as a result of military service.
At 3 p.m. local time on the last Monday in May, Americans are asked to stop for 60 seconds or one full minute to remember those who have died in service to their country.
While participation is voluntary, the VA fact sheet suggests a variety of ways in which you can observe the moment. These include pausing for a simple moment of silence. listening to “Taps” or attending an organized group setting. If you are driving a vehicle, the VA suggests turning on your headlights in observance of the moment.
I saw an "opportunistic" article posted online urging people to not drink raw milk as they might get bird flu from it... which I thought most people would shrug off as obvious propaganda against raw milk, but I saw it posted in earnest elsewhere so I decided to post this here
Raw milk has a lot of alleged health benefits; the author makes the ridiculous plea for "no one to drink raw milk for any reason"...
Please don’t drink raw milk at any time, especially not now
The problem with pasteurization, as with antibiotics, is the process also kills good nutrients like antibiotics kills good bacteria
So by drinking raw milk you can get the good nutrients without them being destroyed. I know of dairy farmers who would drink pretty much straight from the cow without getting sick. The milk tastes totally different (better, a lot of people think)
The elderly or children or sickly might avoid drinking raw milk, but otherwise it's a healthy consideration for a lot of people
Example pro-raw-milk article: https://www.rawmilkinstitute.org/updates/letter-to-medical-professionals-about-raw-milk
Numerous scientific studies have shown that raw milk is correlated with decreased rates of asthma, allergies, eczema, otitis, fever, and respiratory infections. Raw milk also aids in recovery from antibiotic use, and provides many gut-healthy probiotics and enzymes.
Here's the biased fearmongering article in contrast: https://gizmodo.com/raw-milk-sales-up-bird-flu-h5n1-tiktok-usda-cdc-fda-1851476916
Seems a lot of states are divided between urban liberal and rural conservative, so logically it sounds like if cities could be broken up, maybe that would help the political problem?
Will people empty cities for remote work?
Can cities disperse into smaller cities that don't become liberal?
Can some of the negatives of cities (pollution, noise, crime, etc.) be emphasized to discourage people from being in cities?
Any thoughts on making the country more rural as a way of making it more conservative?

Robert's Rules of Order is the short title of a book, written by Henry Martyn Robert, that is intended to be a guide for conducting meetings and making decisions as a group.

A lot of different groups use them for meetings
If you search on a search engine for "no goals" or "life without goals" you get some sites that emphasize the importance of setting and achieving goals, but there are some other voices who say that setting goals is often an issue for them, so they try to live without goals.
Some of the problems they indicate are that goals often end up being achieved differently or on a different schedule, so it seems pointless to set goals, or they can get things done without making it in to a "goal".
I was curious if you've seen this philosophy and experimented with it: what are your opinions on "living without goals"?
Kind of been wondering about this, the Burning Man event seems to attract a lot of leftists, but attracts my interest as it seems to also attract artists and artistic expression, maybe a kind of environmentalism, I don't know. Their main celebration seems to have been a repackaging of the pagan event of burning a wicker man, they burn a big effigy to end the event.
It's kind of ambiguous about being pagan or nonreligious or whatever but I think there are probably plenty of objectionable things that take place that "conservatives" or "Christians" might want to steer clear of. But, I think possibly there are good things that might be adapted in to some alternative new event or incorporated in to existing events.
Any idea about "Christian conservative" alternatives to Burning Man?
The concept is still a little vague to me, but I've seen some articles argue about a connection between a sense of experiencing awe in life and well-being...
https://bigthink.com/the-learning-curve/awe-the-8-wonders-of-life/
What is "awe"?
Awe is an emotion, a brief experience we have in response to vast and mysterious things we don’t understand. And as I’ve studied it over the years, I’ve come to believe — like Jane Goodall and Albert Einstein — that awe is in many ways our most human emotion. We encounter these vast mysteries: What is life? How do I make sense of the solar system? Why are mountains so large? How can you make music? And the mind has this emotion that kicks things like wonder, curiosity, and exploration into gear.
It seems they may...
play a role in our health, happiness, and well-being
Where is "awe" experienced?
We gathered narratives of awe from 26 countries and found what I call the eight wonders of life in the book. They include moral beauty, nature, and collective effervescence. Then you get to the cultural ones: art, music, and spirituality. You also have epiphany. And our last finding from the study was about life and death. People around the world find it awe-inspiring when life emerges and when it goes.
Thoughts on the topic of "awe" in life?
https://www.papalencyclicals.net/leo13/l13rerum.htm
https://infogalactic.com/info/Rerum_Novarum
I think the translation in the OP is ok
The papal encyclical "Rerum Novarum" encouraged certain work conditions or reforms for workers (in response to some of the excesses of the Industrial Revolution):
(from its first two words, Latin for "of revolutionary change"[n 1]
It was an open letter, passed to all Catholic bishops, that addressed the condition of the working classes.
Of primary concern was the need for some amelioration of "The misery and wretchedness pressing so unjustly on the majority of the working class."[5] It supported the rights of labor to form unions, rejected socialism and unrestricted capitalism, whilst affirming the right to private property.
Fair wages are defined in Rerum novarum as at least a living wage, but Leo recommended paying more than that: enough to support the worker, his wife and family, with a little savings left over so that the worker can improve his condition over time.[15]
I'm kind of for legalizing all drugs, slowly, while also putting in place societal infrastructure for discouraging the abuse of drugs and to help people who become addicts.
I can elaborate on further reasons for legalization of drugs if requested; it is not however a top priority to me as a policy issue so I don't focus on it as much for that reason.
What do you think about drug legalization or criminalization?
https://springpowerandgas.us/6-eco-friendly-alternatives-to-fireworks/
Some could save money too
I mean when you think about it, fireworks are often a bunch of lights and sound, which could be replicated in other ways
Some of the ideas that came up or I tried to think of were:
-laser light display
-glow sticks
-bonfire
-firecracker pinata
-break old things (like a rage room)
-bubble wrap popping
-elephant toothpaste (edit: like diet coke / mentos chemical reactions)
-bubbles
-fireworkless rockets
-fly drone / rc planes

As part of the celebration, consumers are encouraged to add this uniquely American, delicious, humanely-raised, supremely healthy protein to their regular diets.
The American Bison, whose population once exceeded 30 million animals, was decimated to near extinction in the late 19th century through hunting, slaughter, and western-introduced disease. However, the bison has made a tremendous comeback and now numbers over 400,000 head across the continent. This comeback is due to a unique collaboration among American farmers and ranchers, Native American tribes, and conservation groups, all working to restore the species to its native landscape of North America. This collaboration also made the American bison the first-ever National Mammal of the United States in 2016.

How this works: An organization tries to contact a citizen to pick up a certain amount of money, and they don't within a certain time period, so since it's legally not their money they hand it over to "unclaimed property" departments in each state (could be a paycheck, stock dividends, money left over in an account, etc.)
How to possibly find monies or how I did it: find your state website on https://unclaimed.org/search/
My state allows free searches, I thought I heard some people say they had to pay or something?
Look up people by last name (can be your last name, can look up friends and family and tell them, etc.)
If you find someone you know, let them know
I don't know how they file, I guess just follow instructions on site, then I assume they'll mail you a check?
Good luck and let us know if you find anything
(Posted for President's Day 2023)
(Note: I have a scanned copy of this prayer and copied / pasted from a site and tried to manually check it for any changes or errors; you can find a version and double check yourself if you'd like)
We pray Thee, O Almighty and Eternal God! Who through Jesus Christ hast revealed Thy glory to all nations, to preserve the works of Thy mercy, that Thy Church, being spread through the whole world, may continue with unchanging faith in the confession of Thy Name.
We pray Thee, who alone art good and holy, to endow with heavenly knowledge, sincere zeal, and sanctity of life, our chief bishop, N.N., the Vicar of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the government of His Church; our own bishop, N.N. (or archbishop); all other bishops, prelates, and pastors of the Church; and especially those who are appointed to exercise amongst us the functions of the holy ministry, and conduct Thy people into the ways of salvation.
We pray Thee O God of might, wisdom, and justice! Through whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist with Thy Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to Thy people over whom he presides; by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality.
Let the light of Thy divine wisdom direct the deliberations of Congress, and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government, so that they may tend to the preservation of peace, the promotion of national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful knowledge; and may perpetuate to us the blessing of equal liberty.
We pray for his excellency, the Governor of this State, for the members of the Assembly, for all judges, magistrates, and other officers who are appointed to guard our political welfare, that they may be enabled, by Thy powerful protection, to discharge the duties of their respective stations with honesty and ability.
We recommend likewise, to Thy unbounded mercy, all our brethren and fellow citizens throughout the United States, that they may be blessed in the knowledge and sanctified in the observance of Thy most holy law; that they may be preserved in union, and in that peace which the world cannot give; and after enjoying the blessings of this life, be admitted to those which are eternal.
Finally, we pray to Thee, O Lord of mercy, to remember the souls of Thy servants departed who are gone before us with the sign of faith and repose in the sleep of peace; the souls of our parents, relatives, and friends; of those who, when living, were members of this congregation, and particularly of such as are lately deceased; of all benefactors who, by their donations or legacies to this Church, witnessed their zeal for the decency of divine worship and proved their claim to our grateful and charitable remembrance. To these, O Lord, and to all that rest in Christ, grant, we beseech Thee, a place of refreshment, light, and everlasting peace, through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. Amen.

I haven't read this book yet but it sounds like an interesting title on the concept of securing living (and family) wages in society, ideally voluntarily but I think the author might argue for the government to intervene to do so (and was referenced in an article on the topic, I think as one of perhaps the first books talking about this from this theological perspective).
One of the four serious sins that "cry out to heaven for vengeance" is "defrauding workers of their wages": https://infogalactic.com/info/Sins_that_cry_to_heaven
This is obviously a problem as an individual worker needs to be able to earn a living to survive, and likewise the breadwinner(s) of a family need to be able to earn a living "family wage" in order for their family to survive.
I was curious where people think that wage injustice exists today and what might be done to remedy the problem.
https://infogalactic.com/info/National_Freedom_Day
On June 30, 1948, President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming February 1 as National Freedom Day. It is not a federal holiday; government offices and banks are open for business.
National Freedom Day is a United States observance on February 1 honoring the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. President Lincoln signed the Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865, although it was not ratified by the states until later.
Chalking the door is one of the Christian Epiphanytide traditions used to bless one's home.[1]
Either on Twelfth Night (5 January), the twelfth day of Christmastide and eve of the feast of the Epiphany, or on Epiphany Day (6 January) itself, many Christians ... write on their doors or lintels with chalk in a pattern such as "20 ✝ C ✝ M ✝ B ✝ 23". The numbers in this example refer to the calendar year 2023 and the crosses to Christ. The letters C, M, and B stand for the traditional names of the Magi (Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar), or alternatively for the Latin blessing Christus mansionem benedicat ('May Christ bless this house').[2] Another form, for Three Kings day, is to mark the door with "IIIK" (the Roman numeral three followed by "K" for "Kings").
Chalking the door is done most commonly on Epiphany Day itself. However, it can be done on any day of the Epiphany season.[3] In some localities, the chalk used to write the Epiphanytide pattern is blessed by a Christian priest ... on Epiphany Day, then taken home to write the pattern.[4]
The Christian custom of chalking the door has a biblical precedent as the Israelites in the Old Testament marked their doors in order to be saved from death ... Families also perform this act to represent the hospitality of the Holy Family to the Magi (and all Gentiles); it thus serves as a house blessing to invite the presence of God in one's home.[6][a]

The objectives of celebrating an International Men's Day include focusing on men's and boys' health, improving gender relations, [...] and highlighting positive male role models.[5][6] It is an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care.[7][8] The broader and ultimate aim of the event is to promote basic humanitarian values.[9][10]
