British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell "was the most hunted lady" in the world while hiding out following Jeffrey Epstein allegations, her security adviser has said.
Matt Hellyer, an ex-SAS (British special forces) soldier, detailed her extensive efforts to stay below the radar, saying: "We would never stay in one place for any length of time."
"She was the most hunted lady in the U.S.A. and in fact in the world but she needed to get out," the former warrant officer told an upcoming docuseries for Paramount+.
Epstein's death in his jail cell in August 2019 led to renewed interest in the scandal, and shortly afterwards Maxwell was photographed while out for burgers in Los Angeles.
In November 2019, British newspaper The Sun also offered a £10,000 ($13,420) reward for information on her whereabouts, the same month her friend Prince Andrew gave a car crash interview about the Epstein allegations against him.
Hellyer said: "It took minutes for someone to recognise her, take a photo and send it to the press and we had to make her disappear again."
"We put two people who look similar to Ghislaine and [her brother] Kevin in the public eye in a well known street in Paris," he added.
The decoy operation led to media reports about a rumored sighting of Maxwell in Paris in June 2020.
Maxwell was arrested at a secluded mansion in New Hampshire in July 2020 during a raid by the F.B.I. Agents found her cell phone wrapped in tin foil and prosecutors previously told the court in New York she was trying to flea.
However, Maxwell's attorney has previously said it was the media, not law enforcement, that she had been trying to outwit prior to that point.
The F.B.I. were able to find her using a fake cell phone mast, known as a Stingray, to boost her signal and trick her cell phone into revealing its location.
An affidavit disclosed in court revealed the technique agents employed.
It showed agents requested permission to "use an investigative device or devices capable of broadcasting signals that will be received by" Maxwell's phone "or receiving signals from nearby cellular devices."
Hellyer said: "We thought it was a bit of an overkill. It was more like Hollywood than real life."
Maxwell is due to stand trial on sex trafficking charges later this month. She denies all charges.

A Colorado house cat tested positive for the bubonic plague late last month, state health officials said.
The kitty in the town of Evergreen likely picked up the infectious disease in an encounter with a sick rodent such as a rat, Jefferson County Public Health announced in a statement.
Jim Rada, the agency’s director of environmental health services, said in the statement that “it is normal and expected” that some animals would get the plague in Jefferson each year.
“The good news is that modern antibiotics are effective against plague, and as long as it is treated promptly, severe complications, illness or death can be avoided,” Rada said.
Plague, responsible for killing millions of Europeans in the Middle Ages, is caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis and is often spread to humans through flea bites, or coughs or direct contact with infected animals, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Cats are often exposed to the disease by eating or coming into contact with rodents, the CDC said.
An engineer claims he’s used a computer program to discover flight MH370 was put into a 20-minute holding pattern before vanishing.
The doomed jet was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in 2014 when it disappeared with 239 passengers on board, sparking one of the greatest aviation mysteries ever.
Richard Godfrey has been tracking the Boeing 777’s flight path using WSPRnet – which uses radio signals – and claims to have made a major breakthrough.
He says the plane was put into a holding pattern for around 22 minutes near the coastline of Sumatra, an Indonesian island, reports AirlineRatings.
Godfrey says using WSPRnet he is able to track all aircrafts going back as far as 2009.
The engineer also claims he will be able to trace MH370 to its final resting place by the end of this month.
He said: “What I found out, without looking for it, was that MH370 entered a race track holding pattern at around 19:12 UTC.
“I was surprised to discover that not only did MH370 enter a holding pattern but that the holding pattern lasted for around 22 minutes until 19:34 UTC.
“On entering the holding pattern MH370 was 150 nm [nautical miles] from the coast of Sumatra and 40 nm from the 2nd Arc.”
There have been a number of theories around the disappearance of the plane including that pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah, 53, committed a mass murder-suicide.
Godfrey’s claims raise questions over why Shah would put the plane into a holding pattern.
