You're right that the death rate is low for young adults, but only when they get proper care in hospitals. The lockdown last summer was to ensure that hospitals could keep up with the inflow of patients. I'm in NY and things opened up in September when the curve was flattened. That has always been the goal. To keep hospitalization rates at a level that can be managed.
