Hi all,
I'm in need of prayers for my wife. A week ago yesterday, my wife was running on the treadmill in the basement. By the time I got to her, she was laying on her side, on the treadmill (somehow she had the presence of mind to stop it from running, and sat down on it.) I tried to set her up, but she was unable to keep herself upright, and was not reacting verbally to me. She was unable to move her right leg, and could barely move her right arm. I immediately called 911, and by the time paramedics arrived, she was able to sit upright by leaning against the wall.
While they assessed her, she was gradually regaining the ability to control her body, and had regained some clarity of speech and thought. At the ER, they immediately did a CAT scan to check for stroke, which is what I was fearing all along, however the scan came back negative for any brain bleed. Next, they did an EEG to check for seizure activity, which was also negative.
At that point, they did an MRI of the brain, and entire spinal column, but still nothing showed up. They admitted her to the hospital, and by the next day, everything seemingly resolved, except for some tingling in the right foot, so they sent us home. Sat she took it easy, and by Sunday, she was well enough that we did a little shopping.
Monday morning, she woke up and felt more numbness in the right leg, and we decided that she needed to go to the ER again. By the time we were walking to the car, she could no longer walk without assistance. They immediately repeated the cat scan, which showed negative for stroke. This time however, I noticed a change to her demeanor and her ability to process and speak. It's almost like she was on heavy pain medication, even though she had not been given anything.
Spent the next 2 days monitoring with no real improvement. Eventually, the neurologist came back and said that she couldn't find anything wrong with her, other than that she was severely vitamin B12 depleted. Normal range is 800-1000, but her's was in the 160's, which supposedly can cause all kinds of neurological issues.
We came home on Wed, but she is using a walker, and still has noticeable cognitive issues, and just doesn't seem herself. She still has trouble moving the right side of her body.
I really don't know what to think... These symptoms seem stroke-like to me... However, three different Dr's have said that they expect a full recovery, although it could take up to a couple of months.
My wife is 55, watches what she eats (healthy weight), and exercises regularly. This shouldn't be happening to her.
