So, for no reason at all, I just figured I'd tell you all about something called the Texas Sharpshooter fallacy.

The idea comes from an old story where a guy would prove he was a crack shot with a revolver by shooting the side of a barn 100 times, and then drawing the bullseye around the best grouping, saying "wow I sure am good at calling these shots"

The thing is, the more bullet holes you have, the better your odds at finding something you can put your hypothesis (the bullseye) around.

So if you, say, have a shitload of otherwise meaningless text snippets but have a hypothesis in mind as to what they must mean, you can draw your hypothesis around any of them.
