I've got a hypothesis. I don't think they want the spike protein to kill anyone. They want to figure out how to make the spike protein well-tolerated.
Because what if there was something useful about plugging spikes into all the ACE2 receptors in the body? What if doing so allowed you to control certain things about the victim's body? What if the spike could pick up an electrical charge from... I don't know... 5G millimeter waves?
What if that electrical charge could... I don't know... selectively alter the expressions of genes, or make changes to the epigenome? Certainly all of this is schizoid nonsense and shouldn't be investigated by anyone.
