17th Amend
The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.
When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.
This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.
It really was to be honest. Senators were charged to speak for the concerns of each respective state in the same regard as representatives speaking for concerns of the citizens. Turning the senate vote into a popularity contest basically makes senators 6 yr reps. The 6 yr term was because states do not change, where as the 2yr term is tied to the population, it's concerns, and population evaluation of said reps i.e. are you representing us and following through on your responsibilities.
Same thing goes for removing the property ownership for voters, people with virtually no skin in the game voting for things that do not affect them screws the rest over in too many ways to list.
repeal the 17th! restore states rights. once you directly elect the senators you remove the voice of the states in washington dc. then you wonder why every state power has been given over to the federal govt - its because there literally is no way for the states to be heard now
